#15. The Joy of the Gospel: Evangelii Gaudium (Pope Francis)

Book: The Joy of the Gospel: Evangelii Gaudium, by Pope Francis

Genre: Apostolic Exhortation

Where I got it: PDF download from the Vatican website (which I then sent to my Kindle)

Length: 224 pages

Briefly, it’s “a passionate call for every Christian to be constantly ready to bring the love of Jesus to others. [Pope Francis] envisions a church of Spirit-filled evangelizers who exude joy and care for Gods people, especially the poor” [Goodreads].

Comments: This Pope doesn’t just walk the walk, he also talks the talk.  And he talks it at length, cohesively and convincingly, if you share his central faith tenets.  One question: is his emphasis on mission, going out to others, sharing with them, etc, a reflection of his evidently very extrovert personality type?  How does Pope Francis do the desert side of Christian spirituality?

Challenges: Non-fiction reading challenge.
