#25. The Widow’s Mail Order Husband (Susan Leigh Carlton)

Book: The Widow’s Mail Order Husband, by Susan Leigh Carlton

Genre: Romantic fiction

Where I got it: Free Kindle download

Length: 147 pages

Briefly, it’s set in the post-Civil War period in USA, about a woman whose husband was killed at Gettysburg and who twelve years later finds a new husband via what we would call a “personal column” in a newspaper.

Comments: This is a light romance.  I read it when I was feeling slightly unwell, and it was fine for then, an undemanding short novel.  But the main character has a very late-twentieth-century feminist agenda, which made it rather unbelievable.  And the sex scenes were too graphic.  Not much depth here.

Challenges: Ebook reading challenge.
