Yesterday I woke up to the surprise message that I am the winner of the Jan/Feb prize on the BookDate blog for the Full House Challenge! I’m so delighted! I posted links to eight reviews for this challenge in these two months, and I’m not sure which one was actually pulled out of the hat, but that doesn’t matter at all. I’ve received my $10 Amazon voucher, and will use it on a book for the “Won or Borrowed” category in this challenge. I have seventeen more categories to complete before Dec. 31st. It’s a great challenge, and there’s still time to join in, if you’re interested.
Here is my card at the end of Feb:
Book: The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared , by Jonas Jonasson
Length: 400 pages
Where I got it: Christmas gift from D.
Briefly, it’s what it says on the tin – the story of a man who disappears from an old people’s home on his 100th birthday, and what happens to him afterwards. And also what happened to him before. All one hundred years of it.
Comments: This is billed as an “international best-selling sensation”, “hilarious… a publishing phenomenon”, and so forth. Sorry, not for me. I found the first few chapters funny. After a while I found it less funny. Then I found it ridiculous. There was one chapter towards the end which gave me another few laughs (the one where the comrades “explain” to the police what “really” happened) – but in between was just silly.
Challenges: Full House Reading Challenge, for the category “Set in a different country from you” (Sweden).
I’ve been considering this challenge for a few weeks, and I’ve decided to go for it.
The challenge is to read one book from each of these 25 categories, between Jan 1st and Dec 31st 2014:
The host is Kathryn at Book Date; for full details and sign-up are here.
I’ve got ideas for about half of the categories, but I’m sure I’ll change a lot! Several will be cross-overs. It’s fun planning.
Dec: Edited to add the correct Challenge graphic – doh!
